| · Canyon's Goals In God's Word it says, "Without a vision the people perish." (Proverbs 29:18) Fellowships, even more so than individuals, must have God-given goals. Without specific goals we could find ourselves in a whirlwind of activities and programs and still not a single step closer toward the accomplishment of God's purposes. The following are specific goals that articulate the vision our Lord has given us:
- To assist each person in coming to know, trust and worship the Lord our God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) with "all our heart, soul, mind, and strength."
To uphold the Biblical truths of evangelism, community, discipleship, and world missions. To see the five-fold ministry (apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists, and teachers) functioning in our midst, "equipping the saints for the work of ministry." To walk in covenant relationships with one another, remaining loyal and repairing breaches according to the Word of God.To promote the preparation and encouragement of family life (role concepts, conflict resolve, parenting, etc.) To identify and train Christians for leadership in the church, the community, and in the world. To embrace the loving correction and encouragement from one another so that the Body may upbuild itself in love. To progressively learn to show honor (to Jesus, leaders, parents, the elderly, employers, etc.) To effectively initiate new Christians into the community's lifestyle and household living (where applicable). To practically prepare for perilous times (simplifying lifestyles, sharing resources, stewardship of the earth) and live as people of overcoming faith in these last days. To assist one another in discovering, developing, and deploying our spiritual gifts for the building up of the Body of Christ. To see each person financially free, and faithful steward of God's resources (tithes for the ministry, offering for needy Christians, offerings for world missions, gifts for the poor). To honor and provide spiritual and practical family support for the celibates. To provide spiritual and practically for single parents, widows, etc. To be "given to hospitality" as an integral part of our life together in Christ (to include those within the community as well as guests from other localities). To teach everyone practical principles of guidance in order to find and fulfill God's unique will and purpose for their life. To train each believer to effectively recognize and overcome temptation in order to live a victorious Christian life. To see unity become a reality in the Body of Christ as a whole. These specific goals give us definite direction. They provide a sense of purpose and vision, which are indispensable motivators. Every decision we make and every gathering we plan are made with these objectives in mind.
